Why ‘getting in shape’ applies to everything we do

I was biking up a hill this morning and my mind immediately started to tell me I shouldn’t do this again. It had been awhile since I was on a bike.

However, I remembered that I wasn’t in shape yet for these hills. The more I rode my bike the more I realized I was capable of getting back into shape.

I find this is true for me in so many other areas of my work. The tendency to stop something early because it is hard or doesn’t go great at first.

So this morning I reminded myself that of course I haven’t hit a groove yet because I am not in shape. And if I am not careful, my mind will talk me out of doing something that I love.

Getting in shape requires consistency and showing up even when it it is not fun or the novelty wears off. I am grateful a bike ride to a coffee shop reconnected me to what I am capable of.

So that tough thing you are working on or trying out, I believe you have it in you to make it up the hill. Just keep showing up.
